Enhance Preparedness through Kolekole Pass—Army leads joint exercise
U.S. Army Garrison Hawai’i (USAG Hawai’i) hosted a tabletop exercise (TTX) on Nov. 12-13 to enhance disaster preparedness and evaluate Kolekole Pass as a critical evacuation route for O’ahu’s west side communities. The exercise brought together federal, state, and local agencies, including the Honolulu Police and Fire Departments, to strategize emergency responses for natural or man-made crises. Participants emphasized the importance of interagency coordination and information sharing to ensure effective evacuation plans and community resilience. The TTX highlighted the pass’s role in connecting isolated communities during disasters, providing an essential backup plan to save lives and reduce suffering. Key leaders praised the collaborative efforts and stressed the need for continued training and planning to safeguard Hawai’i residents.

A memorandum of agreement between the Defense Health Agency and the American Red Cross allows animal visitation teams to provide visits to hospitalized patients, staff, and others in any military medical treatment facility. Daisy and her handler Laurel Stone are also willing to visit with Soldiers and Families at their units, motor pools, barracks, or other locations for morale and comfort.

MARIE, Mich. – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District and New Lock at the Soo contractor Kokosing Alberici Traylor, LLC (KAT) will host an in-person and virtual public meeting at 6 p.m., November 21, 2024, to inform the public of test blasting activities needed for project construction. The Corps of Engineers contracted KAT to complete Phase 3 construction of the New Lock at the Soo project. This work includes the excavation of bedrock scheduled for this year and 2025. “The project team will perform test blasts to fracture the existing bedrock to be excavated and removed,” Rachel Miller, New Lock at the Soo Contracting Officer’s Representative said. “All blasting will be completed within the Corps of Engineers Soo Locks facility in the existing decommissioned Sabin Lock area.”

NAPLES, Italy –Task Force 61/2 (TF 61/2) stands at the forefront of the Marine Corps and Navy's integration efforts in the Mediterranean, enhancing amphibious operations and ensuring that U.S. forces are always ready to respond to any crisis in the region. Based in Naples, Italy, TF 61/2 operates with a scalable presence, supporting Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) deployments in the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) theaters. When the ARG/MEU is not forward deployed in the EUCOM and AFRICOM areas of responsibilities, TF 61/2 maintains a smaller staff in Naples, ready to surge forward to command and control the ARG/MEU or respond to emerging crises in the European and African areas of responsibilities. TF 61/2 is currently staffed by Marines and Sailors from the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade (2d MEB), a subordinate command of II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF). Currently, TF 61/2 is commanding and controlling the deployed Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (WSP ARG) composited with the 24th MEU Special Operations Capable (SOC), one of the Marine Corps' most adaptable and responsive forces. In addition to the ARG/MEU, when forward deployed, TF 61/2 exercises tactical control of Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team Company, Europe (FASTEUR), as well as reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance (RXR) forces and other deployed II MEF units as part of Marine Rotational Forces-Europe (MRF-E). The task force maintains an unwavering focus on readiness to respond to crisis, providing swift, flexible options for U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa (NAVEUR-NAVAF), U.S. 6th Fleet and U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Europe and Africa (MFEA). TF 61/2 embodies the Marine Corps’ commitment to naval integration, ensuring that the ARG/MEU team is capable and ready to execute amphibious operations, humanitarian assistance, crisis operations, and joint missions with NATO Allies and partners.

SANTA RITA, Guam — The U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) reset the Port Heavy Weather Condition (PHWC) to WHISKEY for Commonwealth ports at 10:30 a.m. and for Guam around 1 p.m. on Nov. 13, 2024, following the westward movement of Tropical Storm 25W (Man-yi). "We thank our maritime partners for prioritizing safety. We anticipate vessel traffic and cargo operations in the ports to resume later today," said Cmdr. Ryan Crose, deputy sector commander, U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam. "Our assessment teams worked rapidly to survey infrastructure and ensure safeguards are in place to officially reopen the commercial ports. Our regular operations are returning to normal, and the mission support team members under Base Guam and sub-units are assessing our facilities for any additional impacts." The COTP's team and partners closely monitor awaiting commercial traffic, including tankers and cargo vessels loaded with freight, and personnel at regional port facilities report no damage or issues. The U.S. Coast Guard continues to advise caution as Tropical Storm Man-yi moves westward away from the Marianas. Although the immediate threat passed, Guam and Rota remain under a Tropical Storm Warning. A High Surf and Small Craft Advisory are in effect through Thursday, and a Rip Current Statement will be active through Wednesday evening.
